Understand IPTV playlist files, account-style logins and TV-guide metadata without confusing player configuration with rights to stream content.

A playlist is a set of playback references

An M3U file or URL commonly lists media entries and related metadata. It does not by itself verify that the referenced streams are available, reliable or lawfully distributed. Treat playlist URLs and embedded tokens as account credentials.

Opening an unknown playlist can expose you to untrusted destinations. Use only sources supplied by a legitimate authorized service and avoid sharing working links in public screenshots or forums.

Account logins are different from playlists

Some IPTV players support a username, password and server address, often described as an Xtream-style API connection. Others support only playlists. Compatibility depends on the app implementation and the provider's supported authentication method.

Do not assume that an application with the right login fields is endorsed by your service. Verify the official recommended player and never re-use a password from banking, email or other accounts.

EPG is programme information, not catch-up capability

An electronic programme guide displays schedules, titles and sometimes programme descriptions. Its time zone, feed quality and channel mapping can cause incorrect times even when live playback works.

Catch-up and replay depend on separate server capabilities and content rights. Test a known programme on a particular authorized channel rather than assuming the presence of a guide means replay is available.

A short troubleshooting sequence

If the guide is empty, check the device date, time zone and the provider's programme-data URL or supported settings. If playback fails while EPG appears, investigate authentication and the stream itself rather than treating the guide as proof that video should work.

Keep service credentials private, confirm device compatibility and use the provider's official support path for any changes to login or playlist formats.
